[ that... wasn't really the point. but okay. he's too tired to really argue and suddenly he just... falls, lengthways on her bed. good luck moving him. ]
I'm not ignoring you. I'm right here. [ well, sort of. they're both the pinnacle of maturity ok ]
[She honestly looks so offended. Elektra stares down at him and realizes for the first time that she truly has no idea what she's dealing with here.] Should I scratch behind your ears too?
You spend too much with children. [She retorts more out of habit than anger. Elektra sighs deeply and finally stops petting Max. She actually does brush her fingers through his hair like he's pet who finally done something right.] We're cool.
[She rolls her eyes because it sounds ridiculous to say and hear.]
[ it's the first touch anyone's dealt him that hasn't felt like torment and he finds himself leaning into her fingers, eyes shutting briefly because it feels nice. ]
I won't do that again. Ignore you. [ his eyes slowly open, fingers alighting on her wrist. ] I promise.
[Her fingers pause once he touches her. Elektra holds her breath reflexively, but it doesn't help. Vulnerability seeps out of her at his words. She tries to swallow it, look away to hide it, but it's there. She wants to be wanted so badly that it's practically radiating from her very being. Elektra hates herself for it.] I was being childish. You don't owe me anything.
[ he drops his head back to the bedspread by her thigh, big hand encircling her wrist with the utmost gentleness. the rough callous of his thumb strokes over her pulse. he isn't sure what he's doing but it feels... right. and wrong. all at the same time. so the usual, mostly. ]
If I had told you from the beginning what happened to me... would you still have gotten mad?
[ because he has a theory. spoilers his theory is always that he screwed up. ]
[It's the gentleness that takes her back. Elektra cautiously glances over at him. She's not quite sure how to proceed. How can she pull the mask back on when he's behaving this way?
She laughs softly at the question, shaking her head, and overall sounding a lot more like a person than usual.] I suspect not since you'd be talking to me.
[Her heart jumps up to her throat as she feels that steady beat of his underneath her fingers. She truly is lost in all this, but she can't actually bring herself to look away. She meets his gaze even knowing that he's really seeing her right now. Only Karen has gotten an actual glimpse before of what she's like when she isn't playing up being a silly rich girl. It's unnerving.] We are.
[She quietly reassures him. Her lips quirk up into a weak smirk.] I won't hit you again unless you want me to.
I want you to. [ it comes out too quick and he looks bemused at himself for a minute before quashing it down again. ] Maybe tomorrow, though.
[ or like when bruises aren't covering literally inch of him? frank pls ]
When my touch came back everything hurt. More than anything's ever hurt before. [ and she knows exactly what that means for people like them. he drops his hand from her wrist but doesn't brush her away. ] But this doesn't hurt. [you're not hurting me now. ]
[Elektra smiles in amusement at how quickly that comes out. She suspected he enjoyed that. It's good to have it confirmed. Who is she to judge when she clearly enjoyed being the one to deal out that pain?] Maybe a little longer than that. You need to be able to move, Francis.
[She won't remind him of his responsibilities. He knows them well enough. He didn't come here for that. Elektra strokes her thumb over the spot of his heart sympathetically. She does understand what he means. The closest she ever came was being poisoned by the Hand. That was example enough that he's serious.
Now it's her turn for impulses. She presses a tender kiss to the bruise she left over his right eye. She sits back up with an equally tender smile.] Make some room for me.
[ he looks cowed by her insistence and yes ok she has a point. their rematch will have to wait!! the kiss has him drawing in a sharp breath, however, forgetting all about the request as his heart beats double-time under her fingertips. it takes him a moment to catch up to her words as a result, but once he understands, he's kicking off his mag-boots off the side of the bed and working his way up towards the pillows to do as she asks. he wants to reach for her but he'll wait to see what she does. ]
[She notes his racing heartbeat but, foregoes teasing him. Elektra was made uncomfortable less than five minutes ago by sustained eye contact. She's not about to call him out. She draws back her hand and waits for him to settle in. Once he seems comfortable, she lays down beside him having shed her own mag-boots when she came into the room earlier. She does enjoy living dangerously.
She turns on her side so she can draw soothing circles into his nearest arm with her fingertips. She knows from experience it helped Matthew whenever something assaulted his senses too strongly; usually some pain in the ass kid blasting music in college for five hours at a time.] If I'm going to be dealing out the pain, I should probably balance it out a little too.
[ he tenses, just for a second, but his skin yields under her touch a moment later. it's more tender than she's used to being and a lot more than he's used to receiving, but they both manage somehow. it doesn't feel like a thousand knives stabbing him where she touches and after another moment, he's scooting in closer so they don't have to worry about either one of them falling off the single bed. ]
It's the least you could do. [ he agrees with a sly smile, slowly lowering his head until his brow rests against her collarbone. he can hear and feel her heartbeat now, feeling the rush of her blood against his skin. this is somehow exactly what he needed. frank doesn't know what she needs though, sticking close until that becomes apparent on its own (or she tells him. frank hopes she just tells him.) ]
Smart ass. [She quips back at him as he rests his head against such a delicate spot. Elektra sucks in a sharp breath as she adjusts to the sensation. She hasn't let anyone this close in a while. She has her fun. It's empty and meaningless; just another show to put on. This is what it feels like to be close to someone again.
Her eyes well up despite herself. She glad she isn't so easily seen right now. She's behaving like a sentimental fool. Nevertheless she doesn't pull away. Elektra keeps drawing those circles, knowing from experience she can do this for hours. She only needs to make it until he's asleep.]
[ the patterns she's drawing on his skin have him drifting, but not so much that he can't pick up on her emotions. he lifts his head and suddenly they're so close, but it doesn't feel like too much. not yet. ]
What's wrong? [ is it him? he's already finding a way to blame himself while he waits for her verdict. ]
[She looks like a person who has been caught doing something she shouldn't. Elektra rushes to try to blink it back. It's hard genie to put back in the bottle. A tear falls despite her efforts or maybe because of them.] Nothing's wrong. [She takes her hand off his arm to wipe it away.] I'm being ridiculous. Get some rest.
[ that tear makes him want to wipe it away, but then she does it and he releases a barely audible sigh. ]
Only if you do, too. [ an insistence as he tucks his head into her throat and tentatively palms her waist. he's fighting sleep every moment because he's worried about her, honestly. he's exhausted like he had been that night with matt. he could easily be out in seconds. ] I don't think it's ridiculous. [ whatever it is she's feeling that makes her think that. ]

[This feels oddly natural to her. Whatever protest she wanted to make about him bossing her around dies in her throat. Her hand settles against his back this time. She kneads the muscles with her fingertips without giving it much conscious thought.] I was thinking it was nice not to be alone.
[It's a whisper into the void, but she knows he'll hear it because for whatever reason he wants to. He's invested the way Karen seems to be. She doesn't know what to make of it yet.]
[ his eyes shut again, eyelashes tickling her skin as he finally starts to give into the wave of exhaustion crashing over his head. max is already snoring on the floor, way ahead of either of them. he smiles at her words, still conscious enough to react to them as his hand travels up over her side and tangles loosely in her hair. ]
You're not alone. [ not as long as he's here, and karen. he knows it isn't a full comfort since any of them could go at any time. but now he's here. tonight, he can promise to be here. he thinks that's enough for both of them now. ]
[It's more comfort than she's usually offered. Her eyes flutter shut as she lets herself soak up the warmth of another body. It's only then that Elektra realizes just how tired she really is.] I know. I don't snore.
[She quips before letting the noise from Max and warmth from Frank lull her to sleep.]

Are we cool? [ it's lame, but the only other response he had was lamer. a scratch behind his ears really wouldn't go amiss right now. ]
